Three little boys

Image
were visiting their grandparents. The oldest came out and asked his grandpa, "Can you make a sound like a frog, Grandpappy? Grandpa (being in a kind of ill mood) responds, "No, I don't really want to make the sound of a frog now." So, the second little boy comes out and asks his grandfather, "Will you please make a sound like a frog?" Grandpa again says, "No, not now. I don't really want to do that.  Maybe later." Then the third little boy comes out and says, "Grandpa, oh please... Please, please will you make a sound like a frog?" "Why do all of you boys want me to make a sound like a frog?" Grandpa asked. The little boy replied with a hopeful face, "Well, Mom said that when you croak we get to go to Disney World!"

It is SO funny,

to see the clowns at FOX bitch and moan and whine, cuz Obama said, out loud, ("If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you'll see more of them doing it",) what everyone knows. FOX is just a shill for the right, a fake 'news organization', who uses the airwaves that were bought and paid for, by Murdoch/Ailes, to constantly attack Obama/Dems and promote their conservative agenda. SURPRISE, it's not a secret, but the crew at FOX has gotta act they they are shocked, cuz Obama is ballsy enough to speak up about the OBVIOUS. FOXNews, what a joke, that's more sad than funny, cuz some people don't care that their 'news' is nothing more than propaganda.

Yahoo!

Four years after Bush and the Repubs WRECKED our economy, (remember 2008?), the 'Market' is finally back to 'pre-Bush catastrophe' levels. Not sure where we go from here, BUT, we are digging our way out of 'Pub Hole' we found ourselves in, after 8 years of the  Bush/Pub disaster. WHEW....

I have a buddy,

whose friendship and opinion I value, and whenever we talk 'books', he says I need to read 'Brother Odd', by Dean Koontz, SO, when I saw the book for sale yesterday, after being drawn into the Goodwill Store, I bought it, thinking Laura also recommended him (but it was actually Clive Cussler) and started it today. Although I normally don't like Koontz, this one is starting out pretty good, with a quote, or thought, that I like.  'The file labeled THINGS ABOUT WHICH 'STEVE' KNOWS NOTHING, is no less immense than the universe. The only thing I know for sure is how much I don't know. Maybe there is wisdom in that recognition. Unfortunately I have found no comfort in it. Am hoping it is a good book, and so far, I like it, although I realized after looking at his impressive list of titles, I've never read him. Must have been thinking Cussler or Clancy.

Great minds, obviously

think alike, cuz Hillary and I basically said the same thing. In Benghazi, where 4 Americans were killed, after the Pubs slashed funding for embassy security, Ms Clinton took responsiblity for the attack, although she, personally, had nothing to do with it, all pertinent decisions being made WAY below her pay grade. That didn't stop the rabid FOX/Repub attack dogs, foaming at the mouth, to demand her head in the days before the election, for not labeling the attack 'terrorism'. Huh? Like Hilary (and I) said, what difference does it make, what label you place on it? Just work on learning the appropriate lessons, and go from there. Obviously, is really tough, being a Pub these days.

Gotta admit I was disappointed,

in Obama and his Inaugural Address, focusing on global warming, gays and immigration. With the economic problems, (mostly from the last administration), seems he should be focusing on JOBS and spending cuts, which is a tough combination, but needs to be addressed. Throw in a bunch of wasted time on 'gun control', and I don't see much useful stuff getting done, but that's nothing new, for the clowns in Washington.

Am proud and happy,

Image
cuz Paradigm Flight Simulation, http://paradigm.aero/  , owned (and staffed) by Jen, Jess and Nate, just contracted for FOUR flight simulators with Embry-Riddle flight school http://www.erau.edu/ , one of the largest, most prestigious in the country. After placing units at Purdue, Florida State and many other colleges, this is a major step toward growing the company, as they are expanding into Air Traffic Control training simulators. Congrats, kids...

Had one of my favs, tonight,

Teriyaki chicken thigh shish-ka-bobs, with onions, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and rice. WOW, delicious and healthy. Doesn't get much better. YUM...

The Repub jerks

finally got their chance to attack Hillary, for the 4 Americans who were killed in Benghazi. She took responsibility, for the 70,000 employees of the State Dept, whose security budget was cut by the Pubs, although nothing reached her desk, and wasn't approved or disapproved, by her. Must be really tough, being a Pub, as Hillary was the #1 admired woman in the world, for the ELEVENTH year in a row. Too bad, guys, as you look at the next prez, who won't start wars for US oil companies, where big money was used to buy US foreign policy, under Repubs...

Took advantage

of the nice weather yesterday, in the 60's, to get in a round of golf at Coal Creek. Great weather, but things are getting pretty dry, and doesn't look like any moisture on the horizon. But, the good side of climate change is wearing shorts and playing golf in Colorado, in January. Snow. We need snow, here and especially in the mountains. Kinda scary....

Saw a couple of movies,

Image
this weekend, but wouldn't recommend either one. 'Looper' was kinda strange, and hard to follow, but, 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', was really strange. Both were filmed around Houma/rural New Orleans, and thought I could get into them, but couldn't. Too weird for me, although the little girl in 'Beasts' did a really good job.

I choose to be optimistic, today,

after the inauguration, even though we face a really tough future. Not gonna be easy, with all the bad stuff we face, but hey, we're Americans, and we've faced tough stuff before. No place I'd rather live...

Doesn't seem possible,

but it was 8 years ago, today, that I saw GW's smirk as he took office for another 4 years as prez, and I felt SICK, wondering how half our country could be duped, AGAIN. Four years later, as he left town with a 22% approval rating, 2 wars raging, the economy in the dumper with unemployment rising, home values crashing and $860 BILLION in checks to keep the financial system semi-solvent, 'til the new guy took over, my feelings were totally justified. Fast forward four years and we have another 2nd term prez, who is gradually digging us out of the huge hole that Bush and the Pubs left. Gonna be a long slog, but hopefully we, as a nation can do it. I give us about a 50/50 shot, depending on just how obstructionist the Repubs can be, and if the past is any indicator, they are gonna fight every stimulus and jobs bill, that our country so desperately needs, to get people working, which is the only way to fix the HUGE mess they made last time. Wow, time does fly....

After struggling through,

'Atlas Shrugged', I'm not a big fan of Ayn Rand, but I ran across a quote of hers that I really like. We can evade reality, but we cannot evade the consequences of evading reality. - Ayn Rand. Not gonna add a bunch to it, cuz it is self-evident. So true, in so many ways. Gotta remember that one....

Bailey's growling,

Image
sitting at the back door, looking at the geese in our yard. The dry summer/fall/winter has left the golf course grass kinda sparse, but our 'watered lawn' is still nice and lush, in comparison, SO, that's where the geese are. Nearly every day, lately, have had a flock Canadian geese in the back yard, munching down the lawn. I don't mind, but Bailey sure doesn't like it.

Because it was 'Senior Day'

Image
at the movies, saw 'The Hobbit' yesterday. After the 'Lord of the Rings', I thought this couldn't be as good. WRONG. Same crew, plus 3-D = Excellent Flick. Nearly 3 hours and didn't look at my watch once, which is one of the ways I judge a movie. Good job, Peter Jackson and friends. Am totally amazed that someone could think up this stuff, and then bring it to the Big Screen in such an amazing fashion. Had forgotten how exciting 'middle Earth' can be. WOW, can't wait for the next two....

DId something today, I NEVER do,

Image
and got a flu shot. Has been SO much in the news about how bad this strain is, and how many are sick, I decided to look into it. Hadn't decided whether to do it or not, but when I found out everyone was 'sold out' I really wanted to get one, and finally found that Health and Human Services, at the City of Broomfield, has a few. SO, we did it, cuz I decided that if I woulda gotten sick, after NOT getting the shot, I'da been really upset. We'll see...

If you ever wanna 'get away',

Image
this time of year, I'd recommend a small, intimate 'all-inclusive' Mexican beach resort. One of our favorites is Viva Wyndham Azteca, for many reasons, as in: perfect white sand beach, excellent food and drink, friendly staff, and reasonable price. Works for me...

Rarely is it SO obvious,

that someone is an idiot, and proven SO quickly, as when Mike Shanahan left RG3 in the game, after it was SO obvious he was hurt, and it resulted in a serious injury. Now, the young QB has to have major surgery and who knows what the long term prognosis will be. Bottom line, he was obviously hurt, and should have been replaced. Same ol' Shanahan that always rushed Broncos back from injuries, trying to get a W, with no regard for the long term interest of the players. Inhumane, AND bad business.

Unlike the chickenhawks

of the Repub party who love to lead our country into war, Chuck Hagel has actually experienced what it's like, and says it should absolutely be the last recourse. No wonder his own party can't stand him, and is fighting his nomination as Sec of Defense. WOW, what a concept! Someone to lead Defense who was actually a soldier! Actually, the real reason Obama wants Hagel, is so that he can preside over the downsizing of the world's largest, most bloated  'money sucking' black hole, known as the US military. It could be cut WAY over half, and we'd still be the biggest and baddest, BY FAR, force in the world. The pubs are going crazy, cuz so many of them make big bucks from it. Nothing new here.

In direct contradiction

to the propaganda machine at FOX, actual scientists have presented facts, those pesky'number things', like polls, that the right wing loves to denigrate.  The numbers are in: 2012, the year of a surreal March heat wave, a severe drought in the Corn Belt and a huge storm that caused broad devastation in the Middle Atlantic States, turns out to have been the hottest year ever recorded in the contiguous United States. How hot was it? The temperature differences between years are usually measured in fractions of a degree, but last year’s 55.3 degree average demolished the previous record, set in 1998, by a full degree Fahrenheit. I'm sure Rush, O'Reilly and their ilk will find a way to explain it all away, though, and the sheep will nod and agree, from their fact resistant bunkers. Nothing new here.

When you look

at the 'Psycho' world of Repub politics, they are against Obama's nominee for Sec of Defense,  (Chuck Hagel (R), Nebr), cuz he's not FAR enough right, even as a Repub, for the whackjobs that rule the Pubs these days. The same party that filibuster's their own bills, just keeps going further off the track. What a bunch of clowns.

Between football games,

Image
am watching 'Casino Jack', the story of Jack Abramoff, that he confirmed as being true, on '60 Minutes'. If you wanna be sickened,  just watch Jack, Tom DeLay and the Repubs steal our country, as they laugh all the way to the bank, during W's administration, when everything was for sale, to the highest bidder. Total sleazebags, but SO Republican, as Cheney/W and crew lied us into war to take the price of (Texas) oil from $15 to $147/barrel and Wall St looted the Treasury. The beginning of the end, of our economy/country.

Great party last night,

Image
as my old buddy Matt, who was NEVER gonna get married again, had a reception at Arrowhead Golf Course, after marrying the lovely Deb on Marco Island, FL, in Dec. Seems like a great match for both of them. Carpooled with the kids, and partied with a bunch of the old crew, at one of the prettiest places in Colorado. Good times with good friends and was esp fun watching Piper boogie with her new friend on the dance floor. Again, Life is Good.

There was a saying/poster,

Image
in the 60's, that said, 'Chastity is it's own punishment,' which came to mind as I was gonna do another list of FOXNews bullshit stories. They whine and scream and hunker down in their fact resistant bubbles, listening to Rush and O'Reilly, claiming intellectual superiority, although all the facts point in the opposite direction. Obviously, being a rightwing whackjob is it's own punishment, so I'm gonna just let 'em fester, without me. Their negative, sick little world is contagious and I've decided to avoid it, at least until I'm faced with more egregious crap than I can stand to ignore. Probably won't be long, but I'm gonna try...

Saw "Silver Linings Playbook'

Image
with Kari and Carol today, and liked it. Good story, but can't imagine anyone writing it, unless it was based on a true story. Bradley Cooper and cast did a fantastic job, and the music was great. We discussed it at 'Gordon Biersch', over cocktails and appetizers, and my review would be, 'Mental health is very fragile, but love conquers all'.

Amazing CU b-ball game tonight,

at #3, undefeated Arizona. The Buffs had 'em beat, with a 3 pointer at the buzzer that was disallowed by the zebras, even though replay showed it was good. Now in OT. If CU loses, it's gonna be cuz they can't make free throws... Wow, the Buffs got screwed, but woulda won IF, they coulda made FT's, and they couldn't.

After failing to report the shooting,

Image
two Boulder police officers finally admitted to killing a magnificent 6x6 bull elk in the Mapleton Hill area of north Boulder. Concerned residents photographed and reported the incident after finding the beloved and familiar attraction of several years, being loaded up by officers who took it home to process the meat. Contrary to all regulations, they made no incident report, and when pressed for details, claimed it had injured itself and they 'put it out of it's misery', a claim disputed by all who witnessed the atrocity. I'm hoping for full disclosure and prosecution.

In a ballsy move,

Image
local Wynkoop Brewery, is introducing Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout, made with bull testicles. At 3 BPB, balls per barrel, it is reported to have a smooth finish and a 'nut-like' flavor. http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/eats/bull-testicles-tap-colorado-brewery-article-1 Wow, we got it all here, in Colorado.

Does legal pot mean less drinking?

That is the question that is being studied in Colorado. http://www.denverpost.com/news/marijuana/ci_22300820/do-alcohol-and-marijuana-mix-colorado-is-about The Denver Post reports, according to preliminary data, there is less violence, DUI's and overall crime, where medical marijuana is allowed. Colorado is set to become a worldwide 'experiment' to see if pot 'replaces' alcohol, or merely gets mixed with it. From my personal observations over the years, I can confirm that there is DEFINITELY less drinking, with the corresponding problems, when a toke or two is substituted. Not even close....

The local news, this evening,

Image
is from Summit Country, where the snow is way below normal, BUT, all the service industries, (lodging, restaurant, skiing, etc), are setting records. Maybe Prop 64, as they are guessing? Just the beginning, as Colorado is becoming a world destination for those who have 'disposable income' and want a 'legal buzz'. Nothing new here, but a good look into the future....

I love it,

as the same jerks who wrecked our country, in SO many ways, are now sniping at each other, and cursing at poor ol' Harry Reid, as they are in the death throes of their once respected party. The real world, that recognizes weird things like math, science, polls, evolution, etc., has relegated them to the trash heap of history, where they belong. Enjoy your spot beside the dinosaurs. Good riddance, to a bunch of 'out of touch' jerks, who make the Dems look good, which is really hard to do...

I gotta admire

Michael Bennett, (D), from Colorado, who was one of eleven Sens, (3 Dem), to vote against the last minute financial bill, finally approved by a bunch of sleep deprived octagenarians. His problem, as well as mine, is that it didn't provide any spending cuts, which is half the problem with the budget. Better to get a deal done, but putting it off 'til the last minute, then doing it half-assed, has become the norm for the dysfunctional gang in Washington. At least Bennett had the cajones to admit it.

Good win today,

Image
for Broomfield guy, Mark Richt, Georgia Bulldog coach, against a Nebr team who looked like they'd never seen that 'new-fangled' thing, called a forward pass. All time bowl passing record, that looked EASY. Hey defense, ever heard of looking toward the QB?

Club 64, the first of many,

Image
'marijuana clubs' opened at 4:20, yesterday, in north Denver, showing 'The Big Lebowski' in the corner, while giving out free Cheetos and Goldfish. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/31/colorado-marijuana-clubs_n_2391057.html Although they backed off their, 'free sample' with a $20 cup of coffee, for the moment, they were packed with new 'members', at $29.99 a pop, who brought their own. Welcome to the 'Green Rush', in the wild, wild west. Not saying I approve, but that doesn't matter, according to the law.
