FBI Director Kash Patel's purge of agency employees tied to the investigation of President Donald Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents impacted a global espionage unit — CI-12 — that specializes in investigating Iranian threats within the US. 

The firings were ordered just days before the U.S. and Israel struck Tehran.
