Republican Senator Grills Kristi Noem Over Self-Glorifying TV Ads

Sen. John Neely Kennedy (R-La.) skewered Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over the agency spending millions on TV ads that featured her prominently. 

"The president approved ahead of time, you spending $220 million running TV ads across the country in which you are featured prominently?" Kennedy asked. 

The ads, shot on location at Mount Rushmore in Noem's home state of South Dakota, show her riding on horseback and vowing to arrest undocumented immigrants. 

Kennedy complained the contract for the ads didn't go through a competitive bidding process and went to a firm with connections to Noem.

Wow, I’m SHOCKED! Who da thunk?
