SURPRISE!!

Our NATO partners don't want to be part of a 'surge, in Afghanistan. SOOO, U S soldiers that should be coming home from extended tours in Iraq, will be sent to Afghanistan instead. We used to have a good, strong coalition with the NATO nations. Until W became 'The Decider', that is. Done deal. NATO says, 'no deal'. Long term implications? You bet. Thanks, again, George, for all you've done for us...

Washington..The Pentagon is preparing to send at least 3,000 Marines to Afghanistan in April to bolster efforts to hold off another expected Taliban offensive in the spring, officials said yesterday. The move represents a shift in Pentagon "thinking" (they think?) that has been slowly developing after months of repeated insistence that the U.S. was not inclined to fill the 7,500 more troops that commanders have asked for there. The Pentagon said a ground and air Marine contingent as well as a Marine battalion would go to southern Afghanistan for a "ome-time, seven month deployment."
Something else of interest: 4,100 dollar pay hike in store for Congress members. They will receive salaries of $169,300 in 2008, a boost of $4,100 over the pay they have lived with since Jan. 2006. Poor dears, how could anyone on Capitol Hill ever manage to live on such a meager income?
