I vowed to quit,

watching FOXNews, cuz it just drove me crazy and made me mad, to see they distort facts to present their Repub propaganda as 'News'. BUT, I still check on 'em on line. Was really funny today, after watching TV news, where Boehner asked for Obama to fire his economic team cuz they hadn't fixed the mess the Bushies made. Joe Biden hen explained how the Repubs took a HUGE surplus and blew it into a HUGE deficit that was rapidly pulling the country down, before the Dems ever got to town. FOXNews totally 'missed' the VP's answer, and reported the Boehner attack as big news. Typical Fox bullshit....

The Washington Post babbled again Monday about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough a lot of people swallow this nonsense. So consider this.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011.

In that first year they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as president to complete FY 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending.

After that Democrats in Congress took control of spending and that includes Barack Obama who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything he inherited it from himself.

In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since Jan. 20.

So, isn't the above comment illustrating the point here. Obama and the rest of the Dems were faced with a huge deficit and out of control spending and had to do something about it. With the housing market crash, stock market crash, etc, everyone was screaming for money to get thrown into the economy before we plunged into an all out Depression. That's what the bills were for, not defense contractors as it was for the previous 6 years. So, yes, Obama and the Dems are responsible for spending a huge amount of money, but it was with the intent of pulling our economy out of the gutter from what happened during the previous 6 years.

This is what all the Republicans are bitching about in an attempt to deceive the public into thinking that Obama, and the Dems, got us in the mess we're in. "Look at how much money they spent and we're not out of the hole yet". It's going to take time and they money spent is with the intent of pulling us out of the hole and not to make the rich richer.

I do say "intent" above because I don't think that money is being spent wisely as it is being tied up because no one is willing to help the other party get us out of the hole. They want to sling mud and make everybody look bad. "can you believe what they're going to spend money on, we have to say no to that". We really need to come together as a nation to get out of this. We need to learn the lessons of the past and create a better future. But instead, there's a lot of, "it's not W's fault for starting the war and creating a monster deficit, it's Obama's fault for spending money to get the economy stablized". Realize what caused the problem and we can find a solution, otherwise we're going to wallow in this for a long time.

To prove a point, here's some graphs showing spending a deficit. Look at the Bush years and then think about if it was his fault or Obama's.

The graph you cite only goes through 2006. No one is (at I'm not) debating that Bush (really, the Congress) spent more than they should have.

And yes, Obama and the Dems had to do something, but what they are doing is not working.

Look at this graph for a little different perspective:

http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/08/iraq_the_war_that_broke_us_not.html

The graph is about half-way down the story.

So if the Iraq war cost us $709 billion, as the above story cites, when are the Iraqis going to pay us back?

Wait, what? Why would the Iraqis pay us anything? We forced ourselves over there, fired their entire army, attempted to fix their infrastructure but instead completely broke it, and then left. The majority of the money spent went to US based defense contractors. This is much different, than say, borrowing money from a country like China to pay defense contractors for a war that makes absolutely no sense from any side you look at it (well, the Iraqi people were happy to get rid of Saddam, but not after we continued to mess up their entire country).

We owe China for that war and Iraq owes us nothing. Another great example of how the American people got taken for a ride and will be paying for it for many, many years while a few elite US businessmen and China made a killing.
