Thanks, Doatrd, for spreading the idea that a bunch of gullible ignorant sheep, will, swallow a LIE and attack the democracy that we take for granted.
The resemblance between the Jan. 6 attack and the Brazil riots is clear: In both, a right-wing leader — Donald Trump in the U.S., Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil — suggested for months that if they lost a coming election, it would be rigged. Then, when they lost, their supporters embraced the claims, using violence to try to overturn the voting results. |
“Without question, Bolsonaro looms over it all,” said my colleague Jack Nicas, the Brazil bureau chief for The Times. “It is similar to what Trump did in some ways.” |
Both uprisings showed how political leaders can manipulate their supporters into threatening democracy, often for personal gain. Many of their supporters even believed they were acting to defend democracy, when in reality they were working against it. |
The events also demonstrate the fragility of democracy, when we’ll financed criminals are allowed to spread their bullshit to the gullible ignorant sheep who swallow it without question. |
