Trump’s Greenland ‘Deal’ Appears To Exist Only In His Head

Denmark says it has no intention of ceding any territory on the Arctic island, raising the question of what he achieved beyond sowing chaos and bad blood.


The one thing Trump did manage with his weekslong campaign to wrest Greenland away from a founding NATO member was to alienate traditional allies in Western Europe even further. “I think it’s sad and totally absurd that we have an American president who’s blackmailing the rest of us trying to get a bit of land, a piece of land, or buy it through threats,” Swedish Finance Minister Elisabeth Evantesson told reporters in Davos this week. “We will never back down.”

  President Donald Trump’s diesel deal with Russia would supply the global market with 4.8 million metric tons, or nearly 36 million barrels total.  This is equivalent to a little more than a single day of global demand.  The U.S. is a net diesel exporter so it does not need Russian supply, said Andy Lipow, president of Lipow Oil Associates. Goldman Sachs estimated the initial Russian release would only reduce wholesale diesel prices by $1 to $2 per barrel, which is currently at approximately $200/barrel.
