Colorado and Nebraska are embroiled in a fight over the North Platte River, and how to divide the dwindling water as climate change and global warming dry this part of the planet.

And what does the yuuuge majority of the Platte, and the rapidly depleting Ogalala Reservoir go for?

The farmers of eastern Colorado and Nebraska use this precious resource to grow ever thirsty CORN, whose main use, BY FAR, is to provide busy work for the farmers as they produce ethanol, which takes more energy to create than it produces, while sucking the ever more valuable water from rivers and reservoirs, above and below ground.

It’s a political football, begun by GWBush, to get Midwest Republican support for his unpopular wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And now, the farmers are SO dependent on the federal welfare that no one dares touch the program.

Thanks again Republicans, for another of your boondoggles that just ‘keeps on giving’, while wasting the most precious resource we have here, in the rapidly warming/drying West.
