Buried deep

in the newspaper today were two interesting articles. The first told of Jessica Lynch having a baby. You remember her. The war-spin machine reported in the first days of the Bush pre-emptive war in Iraq, how she went down fighting, emptying her rifle in a firefight against overwhelming odds, was then captured and raped by those barbarians. Later, the truth came out. Her vehicle got lost, then wrecked when the driver drove into a ditch, injuring and killing the passengers. The Iraqis took her to a hospital, treated her wounds and informed the US that they should come and pick her up. The war machine press, reported it as a large secret raid to free her. The administration later recanted the original story, blaming it on the "fog of war." The other article of interest, to me, was how the Bush administration is pushing, behind the scenes, to give western oil companies (read-campaign contributors) a 30 year, tax-free deal to help the Iraqis sell oil. I can see Bush pondering, "Well we could use oil tax dollars to help pay for this fiasco, or I could reward my buddies, hmmm." If you can't smell the stink on this one, you're not trying. Today's Bushism, from his office on 10-28-03. "The ambassador was briefing me on the -the vast majority of Iraqis want to live in a peaceful, free world. And we will find these people and we will bring them to justice." You thinking Abu Graib or Gitmo for these peace-mongers, George?
