Very interesting,

in my "Stranger in a Strange Land" book, as Jubal tries to explain to Mike, who was raised on Mars, the concepts of 'truth' and 'religion'. Mike is the lone survivor of a mission to Mars, born there, a human, but raised by the "Old Ones" of Mars. He knows 'truth', but has no concept of religion. After studying some of the various religions on earth, he wants to know who's lying. Jubal explains they all think they are telling the truth, so none are lying. Mike counters with, 'there can only be one truth, so the rest are lying', but Jubal tries to explain there's a difference between being mistaken and lying. Mike finally decides mere mortals cannot be blamed for choosing the "wrong truth" when there's so many liars preaching at them. Kinda hard to argue the logic of the Martian....
