I was disappointed, cuz it’s supposed to snow all day, and I love snow days, but I had the second day of a counterfeiting trial.
Well, all of us jurors braved the snowstorm and icy roads, BUT, the defendant didn’t. Actually he did brave the roads, but not to show up at his trial. He hit the road, probably back to Mexico, cuz it was obvious he was guilty, and everyone knew it, including him.
We weren’t supposed to discuss the case, but once he boogied and it was declared a mistrial, we did.
And we had a vote as to who thought he was guilty.
Unanimous verdict, BUT, it was before the defense could present a case, although we all knew what it was gonna be.
They were gonna claim he didn’t KNOW he had counterfeit hundred dollar bills, cuz we saw security camera footage of a cashier looking at three bogus bills, holding them up to the light and doing the pen/marker test to see if they were real, and he accepted them.
That meant they were printed of ‘real’ paper, and we were wondering about that. One of the witnesses today was gonna be a a Secret Service agent, so maybe we would have find out.
We did find out, through the first day’s testimony, that the defendant was a YUUUUGE Liar. On the scale of our Liar in Chief, as in, you couldn’t believe a word he said.
Manual obvious knew things were going bad, after the first day, and as we all, including him, left the courthouse yesterday, I thought, ‘Wow, if I was him, I wouldn’t even come back!’
And he was thinking the same thing.
Am wondering how much bail money he lost, but if he and his buddies have a huge stash of bogus, realistic bills, it’s probably no big deal vs prison time, cuz conspiracy was one of many charges against him.
I’m sorry we couldn’t hear the whole story and see and feel the fake money, which must have been pretty realistic.
All I can say is, if you meet Manual Alvarez-Peralta, don’t accept any ‘hundies’ in payment.
Ahhhh, now I can sit back and enjoy a big snow day.
Supposed to get about a foot.....
