Of all the insidious damage that Trump had done, on SO many levels, including the continuing assaults on truth and decency, the worst byproduct of his arrogant, egocentric reign of error may be the lifelong friendships and relationships that he has destroyed.

To the Editor:

Re “They Were My Friends for Years. Trump Tore Us Apart,” by Art Cullen (Opinion guest essay, Feb. 8):

I must thank Art Cullen for his beautifully rendered piece that speaks to one of the tragedies in the wake of the Trump presidency. This loss of friendship is a divide that is often forgotten in the wider lens of politics, reducing the Trump effect into red and blue states, Republicans and Democrats.

Mr. Cullen reminds us that the ugly impact of the Trump years is more granular, chipping away at even lifelong friendships before making the cracks too wide to heal. Of all the meanspirited excesses of the former president, perhaps this is the most unforgivable.

There is no middle ground any more. At least I haven’t seen it. You either see him as the criminal conman that he is, and has always been, or you see him as a savior, for this ‘terrible mess(?)’ that Biden has gotten us into.

He, with his LIES and multiple crimes, has driven a wedge into families and relationships that will never heal. There has always been a divide between liberal and conservative, or more accurately, urban vs rural, but, thanks to FOXNews, where the MAGA crowd gets everything through a filter of Dems BAD—Pubs GOOD, there is no common ground.

And, sad as that may be, I guess I’m OK with it, cuz anyone who can look at Boss Hogg, the LYING, morally bankrupt criminal/conman and say, ‘that’s my guy’, I don’t want to waste any time or breath on.

Life is too short.

Thanks FOX, and Donald….
