Wow, we really did get some snow while we were gone!
Had heard about record snow at DIA, over 31”, but when you get home, three days later and barely make it through the snowplow drifts to your buried driveway, it all becomes real, esp when you see the broken limbs and trees.
Oh well, like the song lyrics ‘back to life, back to reality’, all vacays come to an end and I was starting to miss the kitties, who REALLY missed us, although Gretchen did a great job, even shoveling a path through the deep, heavy snow for us.
The plane down was maybe 20% full and the return trip was packed, taking care of all us that had to stay an extra few days cuz of the storm. Have been going to Mexico at least once a year for over 40 years and doing all-inclusives around Playa del Carmen for over 30 years and this resort, Secrets Maroma, available at a bargain price to lure COVID travelers was the best, by quite a bit, in all aspects.
I was expecting mostly old farts like us, cuz of COVID vaccines, but have never seen such a young, good looking crowd. Maybe cuz adults only. Mostly Colorado, Minnesota and Wisconsin, plus a bunch of foreigners, including Russians, who pissed me off, cuz they are loud and rude. Trump’s buddies.
Reading by the pool or on the beach is one of my favorite things, and I finished The Guardians by John Grisham, then read his Camino Winds and started Carl Hiason’s Squeeze Me, which is laugh out loud funny.
Best food, entertainment, beach, staff, etc. Absolutely world class meals, featuring escargot, mussels, BBQ ribs, baked beef ribs, filets/steaks and amazing dishes like beef cheeks and ossa buca, complemented by excellent wine and cocktails, not to mention the seafood. The only downside? The pool volleyball and basketball was so fun that I wore out the bottoms of my feet on the concrete. Oh well, another first world problem....AND, we were so ‘busy’, I never even made it to the daily darts tourney or archery shootout, which are two of my favorite things. Maybe next year...
Gonna miss the full breakfast/coffee/fruit/pastries delivered to the room at eight every morning. Delicious, and forced us not to sleep in, wasting precious vacation time. Am trying to talk Carol into continuing the tradition, but not having much luck.
In the mean time, have some shoveling, cuz it’s too deep/wet/heavy for my snowblower, then limbs/trees to clean up after unpacking and taking care of business. Reality sucks....
Is important to trim the coconuts before they fall and bonk a tourista.
