One more Lucerne pic/story,

as it was one of my favorite places. This is the 'Lion of Luzern', a massive sculpture carved into a cliff beside a lagoon. Click to enlarge and you see a lion, at the moment of death, symbolizing the death of hundreds of 'Swiss Guards', who were killed defending the pope when Rome was sacked. 3/4 of them were killed, but they got the pope to safety, in the fortress of Sant'Angelo, where less than 100 of the 'guard', held back over a hundred thousand attackers. If you have seen Sant'Angelo, or Hadrian's Tomb, you would understand. The Lion, is a amazing sculpture, carved into the rock.
