Free speech and conversion therapy: We have a problem here
A popular internet cartoon depicts a young woman standing in front of a priest. “Father, I’m lesbian,” she says. The priest responds, “Ask God for help to cure you from that sin!” The woman falls to her knees in front of the priest, clasps her hands in prayer, and says, “God, please, let my problem disappear.” Poof! The priest vanishes.
Now that lawsuits are being filed, one can understand why ‘conversion therapists’ who charged thousands for their ‘services’ want to distance themselves from traditional conversion therapies, which include such atrocities as induced vomiting, electroshock, community/family banishment, chemical or surgical castration, brain surgery and even “corrective rape.”
More than 20 states to date, including Colorado, have outlawed the practice of conversion therapy by licensed therapists on the dual grounds that it doesn’t work and it causes immense mental and physical harm — and even increased likelihood of suicide — to the individual being treated.
Thanks again, to the Conservatives(R), who push their ignorance, bias and hate on the rest of us.
