White House All But Confirms Trump's Retribution Towards A Blue State
As suspected, the Trump administration’s pledge to break up the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado, is more about political retribution than the critically important research done by the scientists who work there.
An unnamed senior White House official told NOTUS in an email that President Donald Trump is trying to strong-arm Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) — but conveniently didn’t specify what he wants.
“Maybe if Colorado had a governor who actually wanted to work with President Trump, his constituents would be better served,” the White House official said.
Trump on Monday promised to retaliate against the state if Polis didn’t pardon and release Tina Peters, a former county clerk serving nine years in prison for orchestrating a scheme to breach voting machine data driven by false claims of fraud in the 2020 election.
On Thursday, the Trump administration canceled $109 million in federal transportation grants in Colorado, including a $66 million grant intended to fund a critical rail safety mechanism in the northern part of the state.
