 To the Editor:

What a contrast in the sparring between Canadian and American leaders. The Canadians speak with dignity, purpose and principle. The Americans seem addled and devoid of integrity.

The Canadians are defending their country with honor. We Americans, by contrast, appear as bullies, embracing a might-makes-right mentality, behaving boorishly, trying to explain away an emperor who has no clothes. President Ronald Reagan often described America as a “shining city upon a hill.” Today, America increasingly looks like a humiliated thug lying in a ditch.

The picture painted by Canada could hardly be clearer: one nation defending its sovereignty with dignity and principle, and another allowing its power, reputation and integrity to be diminished by the conduct of its own leadership.

Saw a good movie yesterday,

that really showed how fast time flies. Argo is about the hostage crisis in Iran, 33 years ago, and has a bit of history at the the beginning, that most of us have forgotten, as in WHY the Iranian people were SO pissed off at Americans. In 1953, the popularly elected president of Iran was replaced by the Shah of Iran, in a coup directed and financed by the CIA and the US, to protect America's Big Oil interests, much the same way Saddam Hussein was installed in Iraq. The shah, like Hussein, was a despot who tyrannized the people and looted the treasury. When he was overthrown, in a populist revolution, he fled to the US, but the Iranians wanted to put him on trial. Hence, the Iranian mobs took out their anger on the US embassy and it's workers. Argo, based on a true story, tells how Hollywood helped smuggle six Americans back home, with a fake movie. Good flick that explained a lot about why 'they hate us' over there, and brought back many memori...

Michelle Bachmann probably has 'double the IQ",

of Sarah Palin, but that doesn't mean it's in triple digits. Given a chance to admit that she made a mistake when she stated that our 'Founding Fathers' worked tirelessly to end slavery, she doubled down and claimed John Quincy Adams, who was a young child at the time, was against slavery, so she was/is right. Wow. I guess Paul Revere warned the British, with his bells, as the founding fathers were fighting to free their slaves.
