Whoa, pretty strange

The lobby of an all-inclusive resort, the Grand Riviera Princess, near Playa del Carmen blew up today, killing 7 and injuring many others, mostly Canadians. It seems it was a build up of 'swamp gas', or something similar, but not natural gas, used only in the kitchen. It blew out the windows of nearby resorts. Have never stayed at that particular resort, but have stayed at many, right in that area. Pretty scary.

That area of beach/jungle has 'cenotes' all through it, which are freshwater caverns that can be pretty large. I imagine the workers just filled one in, with organic debris from the site, and paved over it for the lobby of the resort. Over the years I imagine it decomposed and the gas built up, til it somehow ignited and exploded. Wonder how many other potential 'bombs' there are down there?
