The president's endorsement is a blow to longtime Sen. John Cornyn, whom Senate Republicans had begged Trump to support.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has faced several major legal and political controversies: a 2015 felony securities fraud indictment that was ultimately resolved via a deferred prosecution agreement, and a 2023 impeachment by the Texas House on corruption and bribery allegations, among many other charges of impropriety, including over a hundred frivolous lawsuits.
