File it under, WTF?, as the rest of the world relies on ever-evolving, more effective, more effective, longer range drones, Capt Bonespurs and FOXNews weekend host, Pistol Pete are backing away from the new technology. Same old shit, from the incompetent idiots ‘in charge’, as they use multi-million dollar missiles to shoot down $20,000 drones.

The U.S. Army is phasing out its drone and robot assault battalion (the 3rd battalion of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment). Acting chief of staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve ordered the unit to shed its drone specialization following a final exercise in Europe and return to its core role as an airborne infantry unit. [1]
Why the Unit is Ending
  • Back-to-Basics Shift: The elimination of the unit is part of a broader shift by Army leadership to move away from specialized, futuristic concepts and focus on traditional, core infantry capabilities. [12]
  • Leadership Changes: The battalion was a signature initiative of former chief of staff Gen. Randy George, who was ousted in April and replaced by LaNeve, who is closely aligned with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. [123]
  • Findings Reported: After participating in the Saber Junction training exercise in Germany, the 600-soldier unit will end its drone program.
Reactions and Context
  • Military Concerns: Several defense experts and military observers have criticized the move, warning that the U.S. risks falling further behind in the modern, asymmetric drone warfare demonstrated in conflicts like the Ukraine war. [12]
  • Ongoing Drone Needs: The decision comes despite the highly visible demand for effective counter-drone and UAV tactics, particularly in light of conflicts in the Middle East where adversaries have effectively deployed low-cost attack drones against U.S. assets.
