As I watch the Olympics,

and all the records being set, I am reminded of a record setting long jump performance, in 1968. This year's gold was won by a leap of a little over 27 ft, muck like 2008, and all the other years. In nearly all sports, records are set incrementally, by hundredths of seconds or fractions of an inch. In 1968, Bob Beamon broke the existing record by over TWO FEET! He never came close to that jump before or after. Forty four years later, no one has ever come close. I remember when it happened, and still feel the same way. That's impossible, but it happened....
