 F-35's $10 Billion Funding Gap Hints at a Jet Too Costly to Fly

This year’s shortfall is over $10 Billion, after budgeting over $78 Billion for the beleaguered jet, but that doesn’t stop Congress from throwing fistfuls of money at the failing program.

The F-35’s total “life cycle” cost is estimated at $1.727 trillion in current dollars. Of that, $1.266 trillion is for operations and support of the advanced plane that’s a flying supercomputer.
