OK, if you insist,
here's some Mexico/beach memories. Some background, then a typical day. Have vacationed there over 20 times now, this being the 2nd at Barcelo Maya, both times with Paul and Kathy, and this time, Tammie surprised us at the airport, joining in the fun. Barcelo is about 70 miles south of Cancun and 20 miles past Playa del Carmen. One of the best beaches ANYWHERE, and all-inclusive, including all food, drinks, day and evening entertainment, etc. A typical day would be:
Wake up in king size bed, turn on flat screen to wake up, make coffee, shower and put on swimsuit, sandals and t-shirt. Pack book, lotion, I-pod, and sunglasses and head to breakfast buffet that included fresh fruits, juices, latte and espresso, bacon and sausage, salmon, waffle and pancake bar, omelette station (where I would order Huevos Rancheros), surrounded by water, fresh flowers, jungle and helpful staff. Then, walk to beach where we'd spread out our towels on the lounge chairs, then stroll along the beach to see what shells, coral, sea fans, etc had washed up the night before, and check out the European women's lack of swimming suit tops. Then it was back to our spot, where we'd read and soak up some rays for a couple hours, and I'd finally decide it was time to swim to a bouy, several hundred yards out, for some exercise. Would struggle out, against the waves, then backstroke/float back WITH the waves. 'Twas then time to relax and listen to some music, while swaying in a hammock in the shade. Some more reading, then it was time for lunch, at Captan Morgan's beach bar/grill, where there was a nice buffet w/chicken, fish, fruit and veggies, burgers/fries, Mex food, salads, and about 10 dif desserts, as well as Corona on tap and beach drinks. After lunch, more of the morning routine, followed by team Bocce ball, Scooby Doo's, and a game of Hearts (cards). (Oops, forgot about the water aerobics or yoga that we did some of the time). By then it was late afternoon, so back to the room for a shower and sometimes a short nap, before getting dressed (for the first time in the day) and meeting at the Lobby Bar for conversation and cocktails before dinner, which was either at an AMAZING buffet, or at one of 4 restaurants we had reservations for, (steak house, Mexican, Spanish, Japanese). ALL good, but the lobster/rib eye Benihana style show was the best. After some outrageous dessert, it was time for a walk on the beach, under the moon, and possibly on to the professional entertainment and after dinner drinks. Repeat 9 times, and you can see why it's tuff getting back to the real world. You asked for it....
