You can’t separate Repubs/FOX/Christian zealots. For those who can believe in a Literal Bible, Trump’s lies are a small inconvenience.

Most progressives are unaware of this, but by 2015 the evangelical movement was in a crisis of despair. That, however, was about to change when, improbably, a corrupt serial adulterer New York real estate developer became the tribune for Christian evangelicals.

Trump defended Christianity with the power and intensity of a tent revival preacher. Never mind that Trump showed about as much interest in attending church as he did in reading a book. Finally, here was a man who promised that he could revive religion in the public square. White evangelicals almost literally swooned.

“For Christians, what is at stake is always a conflict between absolute good and absolute evil, the quality needed is not a willingness to compromise but the will to fight things out to a finish.” Who better for Trump to court?

After promising a ‘wild time’ on Jan 6th, Trump incited his Christian Troops to storm the Capitol, convinced the election had been stolen, although sixty court cases had provided zero evidence. Facts don’t matter when it’s a Holy War, fanned by FOX. a grinding, daily cesspool of white grievance, mistrust of deep-state government, and a belief that liberals are literally trying to destroy the country out of sheer malice.

Now, as Republicans pass laws to change who, when and where people can vote they have a huge edge in the razor-thin elections that have defined our times.

Pretty scary, when you see how a democracy can be high jacked.
