The heavyweight boxer,

who saved me, and my buddy Gary Shoemaker, from a bad ass kicking ,a long time ago, died at age 70 today. Ron Lyle, Denver boxer who fought Ali and Foreman, had a fight in Denver one night, and Gary and I, who worked security for Feyline concerts at the time, got in the 'back door' free, for one of his fights at the old Coliseum, as we did for all events there. Won't go into the details, but after the fight, backstage, we were screwing around with our buddy 'Pops' who ALWAYS had the back door at the Coliseum, and somehow we got into it with about 6 large Mexicans. Like wanting to drive fast after going to the drags, we had seen a boxing match and no one was backing down. BUT, we were outnumbered 6 to 2. I put one guy out with my motorcycle helmet (cracked it) and Gary knocked one guy out, real quick, then things looked bad... That's when Ron Lyle walked up, out of nowhere and said, 'I don't like these odds.' as we were backed up against a wall. We thanked him and left, out the rear door. Thanks, Ron, for saving our butts, about 40 years ago.
