Good series on Natl Geographic Channel
'The Story of God', with Morgan Freeman, who approaches it just like I do. No answers, but lots of questions. He explains and compares the 'Main' religions, with their similarities and differences. At some point on all of them I thought, 'Wow, people really BELIEVE that?' AND, I realized there will NEVER be peace in the Middle East, cuz there are religious nuts on both sides, who are well-armed and have minions willing to die, cuz 'my God is better than your God'.
Was also interesting to have it confirmed that the Christians broke away from Judaism, cuz they claimed, (unlike the Jews, who wrote the book), that the Messiah had arrived. The Jews looked real close at Jesus and said, "Nope, not him'. Also, in the Jewish religion, the Messiah is NOT divine, merely a peacemaker. And, I learned Apocalypse means 'lifting the veil', or enlightenment, NOT the end of the world in a terrible battle. As always, in most religions, (although NOT the Eastern ones), you can 'follow the money', to see how it works. Ten per cent (tithe) is HUGE, when you look at it on a large scale, then throw in the threat of one's everlasting soul, in a lake of burning fire for eternity, vs 'heaven', for a clincher. Also, although hundreds of generations have been SURE they were living in the End Times, and were wrong, that doesn't deter the current one.
Interesting, and enlightening program....
