Mitch McConnell Issues Sternest Warning Yet That GOP Is In Danger Of Losing Senate
He said the party’s chances of keeping control of the Senate are “very dicey.”
The New York Times reported in February that McConnell had a contingency plan in place should Trump win the nomination ― and become a liability for Republicans down the ballot. In such a scenario, McConnell argued, the GOP could limit its losses by keeping the candidate at arm’s length.
“We will drop him like a hot rock,” McConnell reportedly told Senate colleagues at the time."
