And midway through the Times article, this is part of what Mr. Ross had to say in response to Chuck Todd’s persistent prodding for more clarity from Mr. Ross:
“Whatever his final decision is, is what will happen,” Mr. Ross said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “What he has said he has said. If he says something different, it’ll be something different.”
Even by the Alice in Wonderland standards of the Trump administration, I found these words from one of Trump’s Cabinet members to be deeply disturbing.  Here’s the translation of Mr. Ross’s comments above in plain English:

“No one (including me) has the foggiest idea what Trump will do from one minute to the next.  All we (in his administration) do is roll with the punches and then try to carry out Generalissimo Trump’s orders as best as we can understand them.”

This is what a full-blown banana republic looks like.
