I’ve ranted and raged for years here on my blog about the total WASTE of irreplaceable groundwater, in the Oglala Aquifer, one of the largest aquifers in the enitire world.

The level of this underground store of fresh water, that took millenniums to create has dropped by over a hundred feet in the last couple of decades.

Why? Because farmers throughout the arid west have sunk thousands of wells into their underground ‘gold mine’ to extract the ever dwindling source of life to water their cornfields. Very little of which went to feed anyone or anything.

They use(d) the corn to make ethanol, and in the process used more energy than it produced, while sucking the life giving aquifer lower every year. Why? Because the govt would subsidize the ethanol AND the farmers who grew it. Why? Because no one would wean them from the policies of GW and The Dick who used ethanol production, and all the cash govt giveaways that went with it, to win support from the Farm Belt(R) for their bullshit wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Literally, Vote for the War, and we’ll make 10% ethanol MANDATORY in gasoline! And the biggest welfare plan in the history of America was born, to garner Repub votes for the Repubs bullshit war.

Like giving heroin to junkies, or fighting a losing war in the MidEast, there was no good time to stop, BUT, after 20 years, hundreds of thousands of deaths and casualties and trillions of dollars the US is FINALLY saying ‘enough already’ this is stupid, and pulling out.

It’s time to do the same with the cash giveaways to the Repub welfare cases who suck the aquifer dry, to get their subsistence checks from Washington.

The edges of the aquifer are already going dry, and it’s sickening the water that took millions of years to accumulate is gone, cuz politicians squandered it to grow corn as a ‘Make Work’ project to provide subsidies for Repub voters.

Now, as the drought claims mores acreage every year, it’s time to stop WASTING the west’s most valuable resource and let the free market take over, something the anti-Socialist Repubs oughta understand.
