Justice Gorsuch Calls Out Conservatives For Pushing Myth Of White, Christian Founding

“...It’s demonstrably not true that we came from the same religion,” Gorsuch said.

In an interview with PBS over the weekend, Gorsuch rebutted the belief espoused by a growing number of politicians on the right (including Vice President JD Vance) that America was founded as a Christian nation and that, therefore, the Bible should influence politics and policy.

“I mean, we have a First Amendment, for crying out loud,” he emphasized. “No established religion. Everybody has a freedom of religion, or no religion. Everybody has the freedom of speech. We are all equal under law, okay?”

We were founded as a country with freedom OF religion and freedom FROM religion, NOT as a Christian nation, as the religious rightwingnuts would have us believe.

It’s just a rewriting of obv, provable history, that even a Conservative, Christian SCOTUS justice can see…but will that convince the religious nuts?
